The Alamo Colleges District will host the upcoming IV International Congress of Gastronomy Educators, which will include participants and chefs from Canada, United States of America, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Australia, Ecuador, Spain, and France.

San Antonio celebrates its tricentennial this year, and has recently been designated as a “Creative City of Gastronomy” by UNESCO for its rich culinary heritage.

Join us for cooking demonstrations and programs led by top chefs from our region and across the globe for discussions about the field of culinary arts education.

Objectives: To strengthen the international network of gastronomy schools, mainly in the Americas, while preserving the identity of each country, integrating socio-historical and cultural aspects of international and local gastronomy, in the training of new gastronomy professionals in our continent.

Specific Objectives:

  • Encourage the meeting and academic and professional discussion on the identity and food culture dimensions of the peoples and communities of America, valuing the material and symbolic aspects experienced.
  • Discuss the profile of the graduates of gastronomy with a view to the formation of a professional committed to humanitarian issues in their full sense of responsibility, ethics and professionalism, while facing the challenges of the activity in the most diverse areas of action.
  • To provide interactions and experiences among the participants, in order to share knowledge, creativity, innovation, research and experiences among the different professional, marketing and academic realities in the area of tourism and gastronomy.

San Antonio, Texas is uniquely positioned to host the next meeting of the International Congress of Gastronomy Schools in 2018, building on the platform established by annual meetings previously held in Colombia, Brazil and Mexico. Each year, this Congress is hosted in a different city across the globe with hundreds of participants. This year, Alamo Colleges District is proud to support this initiative to strengthen collaboration and share best practices in the field of Culinary Arts. In 2018, San Antonio will commemorate its 300 year anniversary by celebrating the Spanish, Mexican, Texan, and American influences on its cultural and culinary identity throughout history. These Tricentennial events will elevate the visibility of this consortium of gastronomy institutes through a focus on arts, culture and “Gastronomy Across Borders.”
