History:

McMaster University, founded in 1887, is one of the only 4 Canadian universities that is consistently ranked in the Top 100 in the world.

McMaster is dedicated to teaching, learning and service as a medical-doctoral and research intensive University. Such focus results in us housing over 70 research centers and institutes, which are divided between our 6 faculties: The DeGroote School of Business, and the Faculties of Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Science, and Social Sciences. Our problem-based approach to learning is renowned around the world as “The McMaster Model” since the 1960s.

With a total full-time student population of close to 28,000, McMaster welcomes students from 98 countries as well as Canada. The percentage of undergraduates registering with an admission average of 90 per cent and above has risen from 13.5 per cent in 2000 to 35.4 per cent in 2015.

McMaster's main campus, located in the Westdale neighbourhood of Hamilton, Ontario, is comprised of 300 acres of scenic property at the western end of Lake Ontario, between Toronto and Niagara Falls.

Our 30-acre central core is designated for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Nearby attractions include Cootes Paradise, the Bruce Trail, the Waterfront Trail, the Royal Botanical Gardens, and the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

McMaster University also has four regional campuses: downtown Hamilton, Burlington, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Niagara.
