Towards the Achievement of Global Professional Standards and Mobility: A Case Study of Actuaries

This talk is based on the research conducted for presenter's new book, “Actuaries' Survival Guide” (Elsevier Academic Press, 2004). The presentation focuses on the actuarial profession as a model for achieving global professional standards and mobility. The presenter describes how existing reciprocity agreements facilitate actuarial mobility, and illustrates how cooperative education programs in Canadian universities enhance global quality assurance. He concludes by commenting on the emergence of uniform standards and the portability of university and professional credentials in the European Community.
