For the first time since Simon Fraser University began accepting international students, the school did not open its spring term to them because the cap for international students for the whole year was filled in August.

International students' demand for positions at British Columbia postsecondary institutions has significantly increased in recent years and schools must juggle that increasing demand while remaining committed to the number of spaces they offer to domestic students.

Eastern New Mexico University says it's lowering tuition for out-of-state students next year.

The small University said Friday that its board of regents approved the drop in cost and that it will take effect in fall 2018.

Currently, out-of-state students pay 203 percent of what in-state students do. That'll be down to 150 percent.

The 2016-2017 tuition cost was roughly $6,000 for in-state students and a little over $15,000 for out-of-state students.

Mere hours after U.S. Attorney-General Jeff Sessions announced on Tuesday that the government would end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, universities and colleges across the United States mobilized.

Within a day, hundreds of higher-education leaders, from the Ivy League to community colleges and advocacy groups, released statements vowing to protect affected students on their campuses and urging Congress to pass new legislation before DACA is set to expire in March.

The Trump administration announced Tuesday that it will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, through which about 800,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children have gained the right to work and temporary protection against the risk of deportation. The administration said it will phase out the program, which was established by President Obama in 2012, after a six-month period to give Congress a chance to act on legislation that could restore the program.
