Global Grand Challenges: Channeling International Collaboration

The Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC) invites you to join us at our 17th North American Higher Education Conference Global Grand Challenges: Channeling International Collaboration generously hosted by Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP) in San Luis Potosí, Mexico from March 16-18, 2016. This year’s conference will focus on the potential of international collaboration in higher education in coordination with governments, the productive sector and civil society to contribute to addressing global grand challenges.

Global grand challenges are complex multilayered issues not always geographically limited to a particular country or region. They affect many people’s lives and remain inadequately addressed.  Some of the areas in which these challenges exist are in global health, energy, education, water, economics, human rights and immigration. Their complexity requires similarly multifaceted responses often involving a variety of academic disciplines.

Higher education institutions substantially contribute to the innovation ecosystem in North America.  Concentrating a wide array of experts to address global challenges in an interdisciplinary way benefits everyone by taking advantage of the intellectual, culture and social capital that is shared and exchanged through international collaboration.

It is critical that higher education, the productive sector, governments and civil society improve their abilities to collaborate to address these challenges. By reducing existing barriers to collaboration and innovation and maximizing on its strong research, teaching and service experience, North American higher education will strengthen its position as the leading innovator in grand challenges solutions.

This event will highlight successful activities and new ideas of North American higher education practitioners working on solving global problems through innovative international collaboration.  We will also set the agenda and establish partnerships for future initiatives.  Do not miss this opportunity to join those who lead innovation through collaboration!
